I decorated my guest room daughter’s room (she likes to think it is hers and she reads my blog from her apartment in Canada so I am keeping her happy) but I didn’t have any art to hang over the bed. I wanted something fun and colourful, to add a burst of cheer to the room. Our new home in Kansas is great but all the walls are painted the same colour. Some of them are freshly painted so I can’t see us painting them anytime too soon. I really love colour though so I realize after being in this house for almost 6 months that I need to add in colour in different ways!
It all began with a canvas and I chose some scrapbook paper in colours that went with my room. I decided that flowers would be pretty so I started to draw ideas of what I could make. I used my fancy edged scissors and I basically cut shapes and glued them on.
I recommend getting the thick scrapbook paper that is more like poster board. It is less likely to ripple and bend when coated with podge.
I love how layering the papers looks and I like the pop up flowers and the buttons. They add a little extra interest.
The glue on the button dries clear and you don’t even see it.
The Podge I had was a gloss finish but I think next time I would like to try a matte finish.
I hope my guests and my daughter enjoy the cheerful art that will greet them when they come to stay with us!
