My Cake decorated like a Birthday Present with a fondant bow

homemade fondant

Here is the birthday cake I made for my Daughter’s birthday. I was a little nervous about taking on this project but it turned out pretty well. I baked the cake ahead and kept it in the freezer and I made the fondant the night before.  Of course the day that I had set aside to decorate the cake ended up being filled with appointments and stuff and so I ended up rushing through the process. I did manage to get it done… I just left a huge mess behind me.

If you recall, I took a Wilton Fondant class in the fall. I made the bow that is on top of the gift cake at the class with Wilton fondant. It’s not perfect but not too bad. I stored it in a box until I had this chance to use it. At that point I had never made my own fondant, but to make the ribbons for the bow I made fondant at home. The polka dots on the “wrapping paper”and gift tag are also made from homemade fondant. The icing on the cake is just buttercream which is our favourite. I coloured it in all my daughter’s favourite colours!

I went to the internet to find out all about homemade marshmallow fondant. I discovered that it is easy to make and it doesn’t taste too bad! I used Wilton’s site to help me, so if you want directions I suggest you go there! http://www.wilton.com/recipe/Rolled-Marshmallow-Fondant

    • Wow, what a lovely compliment! Thank-you!! I am not sure I could take the pressure of trying to bake a fancy cake for someone else!!

    • Thanks! I would love to have my own bakery! I am trying to think about what I would like to do while living here in Wichita… hoping to have a plan by the fall.

  1. Looks so PROFESSIONAL, and I bet was DELICIOUS !! Oh wow, that would be so SWEET (no pun intended) if you have your own bake shop!!!!!
